On our last day in La Paz we decided to ride the new Teleférico public transit system, the longest aerial cable car system in the world. We travelled through every stop, though a number of additional lines are scheduled to open from now through 2020. The upper portion of the Sky line opened just two weeks ago.

The Blue Line travels deep into El Alto, which is on the plain above the depression in which La Paz sits. It is a completely different city and the cable car offers great views of its dusty streets and colourful markets. El Alto, by the way, is the highest major metropolis in the world, about 400m/1,500′ higher than La Paz (more or less depending on where in La Paz one is).
